According to neighborhoodscout.com in you lived in Arkansas you have a 1 in 197 chances of becoming a victim and if you lived in West Memphis, Arkansas you have a 1 in 38 changes of becoming a victim of violent crime.

Just a few days ago there was a fugitive out of West Memphis who failed to appear on charges. This suspect was also served with over $1,000 worth of failure to appear warrants in St. Francis County. Now he was arrested by police officers after fleeing during a traffic stop in Forest City. According to Forest City Police this happened right after 1 am in the morning when he was initially stopped for defective equipment. While the stop was going on the police found out he had outstanding warrants for arrest with felonies. The police officer tried to take him into custody and then he fled. The officers were able to subdue the man after he resisted arrest. Of course after they stopped him they searched the vehicle and they found hydrocodone pills and about an ounce of marijuana along with two pistols. Perhaps this story starts to sound similar to ones you’ve heard all across the country–from rehabs in Louisiana to juvie facilities in Texas–troubled criminals’ stories certainly begin to sound similar.

He was then charged with possession of Marijuana less than 4 ounces, possession of schedule 1 controlled substance, driving on a suspended driver’s license, defective equipment and fleeing. He had managed to not show up for several other charges he was arrested on. I hope that this troubled individual gets treatment from one of the marijuana rehabs available as well as the punishment he no doubt deserves.

That is just one example of what is going on in West Memphis, Arkansas. This city has a population of 26,245. For every thousand persons in the city 112.63 will be involved with a violent crime or property damage. Drugs are everywhere in this city. The crime data that was used for the analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies. It was found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation. When research is done about the arrests that occur in West Memphis it is found that drugs are involved in some way, and lord knows that there is great demand for help from the nearby Little Rock drug rehabs. Drug abuse affects our cities and communities all over this great US of A.

At the beginning of this month the DEA in San Diego, CA announced that Benjamin Arellano-Felix who is nearly 60 and the former leader of the Tijuana Cartel/Arellano-Felix Organization (AFO) was sentenced in the U.S. District Court by the Honorable Larry A. Burns. He will serve 25 years in federal prison and has to give back $100 million in criminal proceeds. He was convicted for racketeering and money laundering.

DEA administrator Michele M. Leonhart stated: “The Tijuana Cartel was one of the world’s most brutal drug trafficking networks, but has now met its demise with leader Benjamin Arellano-Felix’s sentencing today. It is a major victory for DEA and Mexico’s Calderon Administration. Together, we will continue our pressure on the Mexican Cartel who leaders, members and facilitators will be prosecuted and face the justice they fear.”

Being 60 years old now this prison sentence ensures that he will spend the remainder of his life behind these doors. He has caused so much suffering and destruction that this is a “fitting end” said US Attorney Duffy. “All of this is a landmark achievement in the United States and Mexico’s joint effort to take down drug cartels operating on both sides of the border,” said Attorney General Eric Holder.

The AFO is one of the most notorious multi-national drug trafficking organizations to ever exist. They controlled the flow of cocaine, marijuana and other drugs through the Mexican border cities into the US. There’s no doubt that they’re responsible for putting many individuals into San Diego drug rehabs.

San Diego FBI Acting Agent in Charge Eric Birnbaum stated: “Today’s sentencing marks the end of Mr. Arellano-Felix’s reign as the leaders of one of the most dangerous drug and organized crime organizations our agencies have ever investigated, While there is still much work to do, it is particularly noteworthy that his culmination would not have been possible without the cumulative efforts of low enforcement on both sides of the border. We are pleased to stand united against the violence brought forth by the AFO and see this individual brought to justice.”

The war on drugs wages on and it looks like this action did put a dent into the supplies and works of this organization. One of the answers is that we do not start doing drugs to begin with. They are harmful to our bodies and our families and our jobs. If we did not do drugs the cartels would be out of business. And the heroin and marijuana rehabs would be able to handle their influx of patients.

Just recently there was a huge bust of synthetic pot and bath salts in Jefferson Parish, La. These bust netted drugs worth over $1 million. There were also many weapons and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash. The law enforcement agencies made seven arrests and that included two men by the name of Tran and May. All of this activity made the officials very infuriated. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said, “I don’t want to hear that it was just a nickel bag of marijuana or it was one of these little ———packages of this synthetic stuff and that we ought not to be concerned. It is our intent to lock up every drug dealing thug that is selling this crap to kids and adults in this metropolitan area.” This is a strong statement; let’s hope that authorities are just as hard-line about getting the kids hooked on this stuff into Louisiana drug rehabs.

St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Lentz said: “If you read, it’s got flammable stickers on it for industrial use only; this is what your kids are ingesting.”

There has been a four month multi-agency undercover investigation going on and they have uncovered five clandestine labs making the stuff, they are using a variety of dangerous chemicals like acetone. The two that were arrested distributed the drugs and one of them owns several smoke solution outlets.

These bath salts was brought to the law enforcement officials in the year of 2010 and the governor of Louisiana made it illegal to sell, possess any of these synthetic drugs. They are very harmful and have caused many to go to the emergency room, not to mention marijuana rehabs. However, there are still some that do not heed the law and are manufacturing these drugs and selling them to our children. Is there no end to this drug war?

Children’s National medical Center, Washington, D. C. is reporting in the journal Pediatrics that synthetic types of marijuana are being consumed by a growing number of adolescent children and young adults, and are sending many of them to the emergency room.

“Clinical Presentation Due to Synthetic Cannabinoids” is the name of the article published and it describes typical signs and symptoms of intoxication so that doctors can be made aware of what is going on. It seems that these synthetic cannabinoids are made in illegal labs and they are sold in convenience stores and gas stations in several communities in the USA. These synthetic drugs have euphoric and psychoactive effects on the user but it does have other effects some of which may be dangerous. That is why some young patients are going to the emergency room. They are complaining of restlessness and agitation. They also have diaphoresis, catatonia, extreme aggressions, and they can’t speak. It is reported that from 2010 to 2011 the American Association of Poison Control Centers received 4,500 telephone calls and these were related to synthetic cannabinoid poisoning. There is a report that tells about what to look for in signs of abuse and tells what treatments the health care professional should consider. What health care professionals are really worried about are the potential long term effects of regular use of these synthetic drugs.

The people who sell and manufacture this synthetic marijuana say it is made up of a mixture of traditional medicinal herbs – a blend with mild effects like you would get with natural marijuana. These drugs were sent to a lab for testing and it was found that these claims were false. What the scientist did find was large quantities of synthetic tocopherol. (A class of chemical compounds of which many have vitamin E activity). They also concluded that what is listed on the packet may be completely inaccurate. The German government did some testing in a risk assessment of these products in 2008 and they found that the plant ingredients were “unclear” and that the source of the synthetic tocopherol was unknown. They also concluded that the euphoric and psychoactive effects that you get from these synthetic drugs might have nothing to do with the so-called plant ingredients.

U.S. authorities are saying that the synthetic cannabinoids are products of plant origin that have had chemicals sprayed on them; these chemicals produce toxicity and they are hard to detect through standard drug test and that makes them very popular with young people. They’re also the reason why so many kids these days need help from marijuana rehabs.

Whatever these are they are absolutely making their way into many cities in the US. Our young adults are catching on and getting them with no consideration of what they might do to them. Check with your children and find out what they know about these drugs. You may be surprised what you find out — and you may need to consider getting a youth help from one of the Washington D.C. drug rehabs.

The Americans for Safe Access is one of the largest medical cannabis advocacy groups in this country. They have now launched a free iPhone app for marijuana activists. What do you get when you touch this app? You get tools to immediately update you on local, state and federal marijuana issues.

Did you know that there was an app for other causes like the “I’m Being Arrested” app and it is used by Occupy Wall Street Protestors? This app by the ASA is the first to emphasize marijuana activism. The ASA is stating that this app will empower grassroots action that is bringing change on medical marijuana policies all over this country. Stephen Sherer is the ASA Executive Director and he states, “We have to be innovative if we want the widespread public support that exists for medical marijuana to translate into concrete results. This app will help put greater pressure on all levels of government to adopt sensible medical marijuana policies.”

If you are a supporter of medical marijuana then you may want to know more about this app. It will help you to become members of the organizations 50,000 strong grassroots network. It will connect you to a legal hotline and enable you to sign up for raid alerts and activist phone trees.

The app is available for only the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices it will be expanded to Android and mobile devices soon.

ASA has been bringing information to the general public and other specific people who need marijuana medically since 2002. They lobby and get into litigation to help advance the rights of medical marijuana patients across the U.S.

While some people believe that marijuana abuse solutions are not as important as heroin abuse solutions, it can’t be overlooked that marijuana is a huge gateway drug.

There are those that take advantage of this drive to legalize marijuana for medical reasons and they use the drug for their addiction. That would be the only reason marijuana has not been legalized yet. Marijuana is a big player in the Drug War. Some feel this is just a way to get it legalized period.

The Seattle Times reported December 2011 that they had argued last February about prohibiting marijuana was causing far more harm than good and that Washington should legalize it. As of that date in December they are still holding this view and have strong hopes for progress in 2012. It seems that about a year ago there were some dispensaries that were open across the state and they were getting marijuana to bona fide patients. These shops were peaceful but we don’t’ know if they were illegal. Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles, D-Seattle, sponsored a bill for the state to legalize licensing growers and distributors. It was a good bill and the Legislature passed it. The U.S. Attorney in Seattle and Spokane warned that state employees who licensed marijuana would not be immune from federal prosecution. Just a side note Governor Chris Gregoire vetoed most of the bill. There are some dispensaries in Seattle and Tacoma that prosecutors have allowed to stay open. There are more than 100 of them in Seattle. It is not the law but it is up to the discretion of those who hold power. Kohl-Welles is getting another medical-cannabis bill together and she is negotiating with the governor’s office. Gregoire should take some risk on this. Science behind medical cannabis is clear and then there are some of the public that approve it. It is reported so far that in no state have federal authorities arrested state employees for doing their jobs.

Washington drug rehabs may experience an increase in patients if this law passes.

There are many groups that are getting signatures together trying to get a measure legalizing, regulating and taxing the growing, processing and sale of marijuana in Washington and this will allow marijuana in small amounts for adults. The poll taken by a KING-5/Survey U.S.A. found that 57 percent of registered voters support legalizing the adult possession of 1 ounce. Legalization will be brought to a vote in 2012 in the state of Washington.

In 2011 a study in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs found that college athletes don’t usually smoke marijuana but when they do they do it for a different reason. Jennifer F. Buckman, Ph.D. of the Center of Alcohol Studies at Rutgers University stated, “But there is still a pretty large number who choose to use it,” So they did a new study and surveyed 392 college athletes and 504 non-athletes about marijuana use and they found that one third of athletes said they used the drug in the past year versus half of the non-athletes. Overall both groups shared many of the same risk factors for marijuana use but there were some differences. Buckman said, “One thing that stood out is that athletes were more likely to use marijuana because they thought it was pleasurable.” It was noted that they were less likely to use the drug for reasons like dealing with stress; they do it recreationally not as a way of coping with life problems. There was one exception and that was that male athletes who keep using marijuana during their competitive season reported having more problems with anxiety and negative mood and they used the drug for coping with stress as compared to those athletes who stayed away from marijuana during their competitive season. “That is a really interesting finding, and it’s a direction for research to go in the future,” Buckman said. “What are the stressors for these athletes? Is it academic? Is it the athletic competition?” It is a goal in studies like this to uncover factors that seem to influence drugs use. With that information it will be able to get specific messages together to make a difference in the drug use in certain groups.

On January 10, 2012, the Journal of American Medical Association is reporting the results of a study that occasionally lighting up marijuana does not include long-term loss of lung function. As marijuana is one of the most commonly used illicit drug in the U.S. They did a survey. It showed that 16.7 million Americans ages 12 and older reported using marijuana at least once a month prior to being surveyed. It is also interesting that since 1996 16 states and Washington D.C. have legalized the medical use of marijuana so that people with many diseases like cancer, AIDS and glaucoma can manage their pain.

Stefan Kertesz, M.D. is an associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and he stated, “with marijuana use increasing and large numbers of people who have been and continue to be exposed, knowing whether it causes lasting damage to lung function is important for public-health messaging and medical use of marijuana.” Marijuana rehabs in Alabama have long held that marijuana abuse can have negative side effects.

He also noted that it has long been known that marijuana smoke has many irritant chemicals like that is found in tobacco smoke and can cause lung irritation but the research on long-term effects on lung function have inconsistencies. After looking at a large database the research team compared the lung function of marijuana and tobacco smokers during a 20 year period, they found that tobacco smoke had exactly the effect shown in all prior studies “increasing a person’s cumulative exposure to cigarettes results in loss of air flow and lung volumes; the opposite was true for marijuana smoke.” What this study showed was that occasional use of marijuana was associated with increases in lung air flow rates and increases in lung capacity. Kertesz says, “Those increases were not large, but they were statistically significant. And the data showed that even up to moderate high use levels (one joint a day for seven years) there is no evidence of decreased air-flow rates or lung volumes.”

Kertesz then cautions all the public that smoking marijuana is not a way to better lung health. This increase that happens does not hold over time. If you use marijuana at high levels these numbers change drastically.

There you go research that shows marijuana smoke not as dangerous as cigarette smoke. In this report it is not discussed how the use of marijuana can affect you in other ways. Get educated on marijuana.

Do you remember that episode of “Seinfeld” in which Kramer and George’s father invented a bra for men? I think they were calling it the “mansier”. I just learned the craziest thing about marijuana use that might make this fictional invention become a necessity. Did you know that a man who uses marijuana can actually grow breasts? It is a condition known as gynecomastia. The Medline Plus Medical Encyclopedia defines gynecomastia as “the growth of abnormally large breasts in males. It is due to the excess growth of breast tissue, not excess fat tissue.” Medline lists several causes for this problem including marijuana use.

I actually found an explanation for it on a website called manboobsguide.com. Anthony writes, “If you are a user of marijuana and you have gynecomastia, your drug use may be the cause. Medical studies show that the effects of cannabis are that the levels of testosterone in the body decreases. Marijuana contains phytoestrogens that essentially limits the production of testosterone inside the body. Since the levels of testosterone are lower, an imbalance in the testosterone to estrogen ratio develops which leads to gynecomastia.” Anthony suggests ceasing or cutting back the usage of marijuana to correct the problem.

A person referring to himself as “Cloak” on marijuana.com, a pro-marijuana site, even wrote in personal horror story about how marijuana usage has escalated his gynecomastia which he had started having before he became an avid smoker. With daily usage, he now is getting surgery to handle it at just seventeen years of age. He mentions the doctor warning him to cease usage of the marijuana so as to prevent the problem from growing back.

So guys out there, unless you want to wear the “mansier”, perhaps you ought to leave the marijuana alone! All kidding aside this drug marijuana can harm you in many ways. If you or someone you love needs help from a drug treatment facility. We can help. Contact our marijuana addiction help line and get rehab services now. 1-877-340-3602.

Did you know that about 60% of the teenagers who use drugs will use only marijuana? That’s right it is the most widely used drug among teenager. One of the reason they use it more is that it is much stronger than the marijuana that was available in the 60’s. One thing we may not have known is that marijuana is physically addictive and when they get off they have some withdrawal symptoms just like a cigarette addict.

The University of Michigan’s Monitoring the Future study showed substantial increase among 8th, 10th and 12th graders from 1992 to 1997. That is a disturbing national trend. Between 1991 to 2001 the percentage of 8th graders who used marijuana doubled. Kids are using marijuana at an early age and the earlier they start using the more likely to become dependent on this or other drugs later in life.

Why do they use marijuana in the first place? They see their older siblings or friends are using it in front of them. Sometimes peer pressure plays a major role. They think smiling marijuana is cool so they want to be cool. Teens start getting into problems when they smoke marijuana to escape from problems at school, home life, or with friends.

What do you look for in your teen? They will exhibit dizziness and have trouble walking. They may have red bloodshot eyes. They may have trouble remembering things that just happened. Your teen may appear silly and giggly for no apparent reason.

What do they feel when they smoke marijuana? They will feel relaxed and somewhat giddy. They will be made to feel very hungry and thirsty. Some may get bad effects like becoming paranoid and have feelings of anxiety or dizziness. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana and it can make you look like you just consumed alcohol. The teen may get several emotional responses like relaxation, introspection, feeling “in tune” with the world, and irrationality.

All of this can affect school, sports, and other activities. Marijuana affects their memory, judgment and perception. They start to lose interest in their appearance and how they are doing in school and at home. There is an association between an increase in sing marijuana and a decrease in the likelihood of graduating from high school. Students who use marijuana are twice as likely to cut class.

Doesn’t matter what all this information adds up to one of the most important things we have to know is that marijuana is an illegal substance and it affects these teens in a harmful way. What are you doing with your teen to get them educated? Talk with them when they are as young as 11 and let them know how harmful these drugs are and they need to know some of the things that happen to teens who do use these drugs. If you or someone you love needs help from a drug treatment facility, we can help.
